Our ward is assigned to help pick Red Globe Peaches out at the
Orchard, beginning tomorrow - Wednesday (August 12th), and then again
3-4 days later. We need as many families as possible to help out with
this picking. We only have a week and half before we need to start on
the next variety. I am planning on going out Wednesday around 7:00 and
then Saturday morning around 9:00am. Won't you join me in this
wonderful service opportunity? Since we are a quorum of assignments,
can you RSVP to this invite so I can put you on my list?
Here is a link to get directions to the Orchard if you haven't been
there before:

Also, please see this special note directly from the Orchard:
A lot of people pick and leave just one bucket of peaches in a bin.
It doubles and triples our job to get these peaches combined into bins
that we can haul in. This time of year we are out each night until
midnight anyway, bringing in the peaches from the evenings picking.
Most of the time, this happens with the people that walk ahead and
pick on the bottom of the tree down the row. We have gone out many
times to find 10 bins or so with one bucket full of peaches in each.
Please do not do this and if you see anyone do it, stop them. Those
people can do it if they want to but walk back and dump into the bin
that everyone else is picking into. This will save me and Dan a lot
of work when we already have enough to do. We will have about 500,000
pounds of peaches to pick. The wind has knocked off quite a few
peaches already.
One more helpful thing to do is please return your buckets to the bin
where you got them. They are expensive and we run over them in the
dark when they are left where ever you decide to drop them. Also drag
your ladder to the head of the row so the next one can use it. We
don't use ladders as much in peaches as apricots but still we need to
use ladders. Please safety first. Don't lean on your ladders. If
you can't reach your peach get down and move your ladder. This is the
biggest cause of most of our ladder accidents.
Once you have picked your trees the first time let them sit about 3 or
4 days and come back and pick them the second time. They should be
able to get the Red Globes in just two pickings, depending on the time
that you start picking them.
We are supplying the major amount of the peaches for the welfare
system. They will be going to three different canneries this year:
St. George cannery, Linden Utah Cannery and the Garden City Cannery.
Thank you for all that you do. It is your work that makes this
orchard a success.
After you are finished picking you are welcome to take the fruit off
the ground home. We don't want anything off the ground in the bin.
After we are finished picking the trees those who have helped us pick
can also glean the trees that are finished. We always leave peaches
here and there on the trees.
